Bradley
Atkins
Senior
Elmont Memorial High School
Bradley Atkins is currently a senior at Elmont Memorial High
School. Here is what his Dean of Students and his teachers
have to say about him: There are young men and women who approach
each day with a refreshing spirit and enthusiasm. They are
the young people who make teaching the most rewarding profession
in the world. Elmont Memorial High School is lucky to have
one of these individuals in our midst. His name is Bradley
Atkins and he is a distinguished member of the class of 2013.
His keen sense of right and wrong make him a strong leader
in our school community as he mentors younger students. He
also demonstrates his strong leadership skills as he organized
over one hundred of our students on a march in support of
breast cancer. Bradley is an excellent student who has maintained
a solid A+ average throughout High School.
One short letter of recommendation is simply not enough to
describe Bradley's success at Elmont Memorial adequately.
Hi is a multi-faceted individual who earns accolades both
in and out of the classroom. Bradley is a vital member of
the varsity Track and Field team, varsity Football team and
Student Against Destructive Decision Club. He is also a member
of the prestigious National Honor Society. On countless occasions,
Bradley has been asked to represent the Elmont Memorial Learning
community and has done so graciously and with tremendous pride.
What is most impressive is that Bradley juggles all these
commitments and responsibilities while maintaining a regular
spot on the high honor role with a grade point average of
4.0 over 4.0
STATEMENT OF INTENT
My name is Bradley Atkins, a senior at Elmont Memorial High
School. I intend to use this scholarship to help me continue
my studies at an esteemed educational institution. As we all
already, affording a college education is getting more expensive
every year and placing a huge burden on families nationwide
to come up with the funds necessary to pay for it. I am honored
and appreciate the opportunity to receive this scholarship
money to help my dream of becoming a physical therapist a
reality.

Scholarship Fund, McKenzie wrote: Allow me to introduce myself,
my name is Layton McKenzie, I recently graduated from Darlington
School in Rome, Georgia. I was given the opportunity to attend

After losing my dad to cancer at the age of eight, my mother
now a single parent was determined that I would not be a statistic
of NY streets. She enrolled me into the "Boy's Club of
New York", which allowed me to become a responsible young
man. I have been accepted to Johnson & Wales University
of Rhode Island, majoring in Sports Entertainment. I am a
young man that is greatly appreciative of any opportunity
given to me or help I may receive. My mother has taught me
to dream big and "Go hard or Go home"; all I need
is a chance. That is my Promises to my sponsors, my mother
and most of all me.
My goals in life is to be successful; to be successful I
have to finish my college education. Education is an important
aspect in my life. The more knowledge I obtain will help my
dreams of being able to give back to my community to inspire
someone that they can reach the same
goals.
STATEMENT OF INTENT
With this letter I would like to convey my acceptance of
the Shani E. Duplessy Memorial Scholarship. I would like to
take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to "The
Duplessy Family" for giving me the opportunity. I intend

assist my mother with my upcoming tuition for 2013-2014, loans,
textbooks and supplies at Johnson & Wales University.
As a result, I will be able to relax and spend more time on
my academics. I promise that I would make the best use of
this godsend opportunity, please feel free to share my thanks

Luc Riche
Stony Brook University
Luc graduated with honor “Magna Cum Laude” from Queens College, New York in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Nutrition and Exercise Science. He has been admitted at Stony Brook University at the entry Level Doctor of Physical Therapy program for Summer 2014.
To a question on the scholarship application: Describe something that you have accomplished that you are particularly proud of.
Luc replied “Graduating from college with honor is the biggest accomplishment in my life thus far. I am most proud of this accomplishment because of its personal ties with my parents and myself. Graduation day was an important day for my parents because neither one of them graduated from college. Graduating “Magna Cum Laude” was especially important for me because of how far I’ve come from my first semester of college, which I finished with a 2.8 GPA. Going from academically underperforming to graduating within the top of my class reflects my strong ethic, perseverance, and the maturity that I have developed over the years”.
In his acceptance letter for this scholarship, Luc wrote:
Dear Shani E. Duplessy Memorial Scholarship Fund

It is an honor to have been chosen for this award, especially because I had the privilege of knowing Shani personally. I am looking forward to being a part of the award ceremony. Thank you for choosing me as one of your recipients.
Sincerely
Luc Riche
